Overview

The brand new 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid is the world's first two-mode hybrid pickup and the newest example of Chevy's heritage of truck innovation, which stretches back 90 years, and exemplifies Chevrolet's commitment to fuel solutions. The Silverado Hybrid, available in 1HY or 2HY trim, delivers the fuel economy comparable to many small and midsize trucks that are equipped with four- or six-cylinder engines while delivering the capability customers expect of Chevrolet full-size trucks.

Power and performance

Available in crew cab style only, the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid is powered by a 6.0-liter V8 engine teamed with cylinder-deactivation technology teamed with two 60-kilowatt electric motors, which are in turn supplied by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The official output is 332 horsepower; however GM suggests a total output of 379 hp with the electric motors taken into account. The electrically variable transmission actually comes across an intricate cross between a regular automatic and a CVT. The EPA estimated fuel economy figures are 21 mpg city/22 mpg highway with 2WD and 20/20 with 4WD. The maximum tow rating capacity is rated at 6,100 pounds.

Body and styling

The Silverado Hybrid 1HY trim's standard equipment include 18-inch alloy wheels, a soft bed tonneau cover, a 40/20/40-split front bench seat, full power accessories, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with auxiliary audio controls, cruise control, OnStar, Bluetooth and a six-speaker CD/MP3 stereo with satellite radio. A power driver seat is a stand-alone option. The 2HY increases the luxury features with heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, dual zone climate control, fog lamps, rear parking sensors, a hard bed tonneau cover, a navigation system with real-time traffic updates, a floor- mounted center console, an upgraded Bose audio system, rear audio controls, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery and power front bucket seats. A sunroof is optional. The other options include remote start, a hybrid decal package and an engine block heater.

Safety Features

Dual stage frontal air bags, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, daytime running lamps, antilock disc brakes and full-length side curtain airbags are standard. OnStar has also been included.
